Norris Point

From Corner Brook, following the CRRF/NAF conference, attendees will travel to Norris Point & Rocky Harbour, in Gros Morne National Park. Many of the activities here will take place in the Old Cottage Hospital, and surrounding spaces.

The Old Cottage Hospital in Norris Point is owned and operated by the Bonne Bay Cottage Hospital Heritage Corporation. They adaptively re-use the former Bonne Bay Cottage Hospital as a community centre for the following purposes:

  • to foster community economic and social development.
  • the preservation of local culture and heritage;
  • the promotion of community health and wellness; and,
  • to foster community economic and social development.

In Norris Point, activities include the following.

Arrive in Norris Point/ Rocky Harbour – afternoon, settle into accommodations;

5:00 – 6:00 – Gather at the Old Cottage Hospital
2-6 Hospital Lane, Norris Point; tour of the building; pop into the Voice of Bonne Bay studio and record a station ID;

6:00 – 6:30 – Welcome ceremony
Joanie Cranston – welcome to Norris Point and Old Cottage
Hospital;
Peter Smith – welcome to inaugural Shore to Shore;
Sara Langer – introduction to tapestry project;
Candace Matthews – greetings from Atlantic Edge Credit Union

6:30 – 8:00 – Light refreshments
Catered by the Farmer’s Kitchen, incorporating fresh local
produce;
Social – getting to know each other;

8:30 – Beach fire in Wild Cove, weather permitting.

8:30 – 9:00 – Gather at the Lion’s / Seniors Club

Point; coffee/ tea/ fruit/ home made muffins;

9:00 – 9:30 – Welcome and imagine the day

9:30 – 10:30 – Quick Round
Presentations by 3 – 4 researchers; pitch their research; ask a
question; invite people to meet with them in a corner to discuss;

10:30 – 11:00 – BREAK!
More coffee/tea, muffins, etc.

11:00 – 12:00 – Meet with Researchers
Fill the four corners of the room;

We may take one corner for the “Making Salads Connection” with Lois Brown and Sheila O’Leary;

12:00 – 12:30 – Creative feedback from the groups;

12:30 – 1:30 – LUNCH!
Catered by the Farmer’s Kitchen, incorporating fresh local produce;

1:30 – 2:30 – Tempting Providence presentation
Local knowledge exchange;

2:30 – 4:00 – Community walks
Up the point, in the road, Harbour Drive, or Wild Cove; walk
with others or alone, explore and observe the community, chat with locals;

4:00 – 5:30 – Meet back at the Lion’s/ Seniors Club
Talk about what we have learned; OPEN BAR (Lion’s Club);

5:30 – 7:30 – SUPPER
Catered by the Farmer’s Kitchen, incorporating fresh local produce;

7:30 – 9:00 – Live local musical entertainment
Welcome other musicians to join after.

9:00 – Meet at Old Cottage Hospital
Choose how you want to spend the morning; coffee, tea,
muffins available;

9:30 – 11:00 – Assorted Activities
Walk to Wild Cove, Yoga in the Studio, talk to each other in the radio station. Cooking in the kitchen (food for lunch, eat in or take out – salads, sandwiches, cookies, etc.), art, story-telling, song-writing in the Museum Room;

11:00 – 12:00 – Meet in the Studio Room
Share stories, thoughts on the experience, plans
for the future; coordinate travel for the next steps of the adventure in Flat Bay;

12:00 – 1:00 – LUNCH!!!
